How we rate crypto casinos

We don't rank crypto casinos from a spreadsheet. Our team registers a real account at each site, buys crypto through an NZ exchange, makes a deposit, plays a spread of pokies, live tables and provably-fair originals, then requests a withdrawal so we can time it accurately across different coins and networks. Every crypto casino is scored against a weighted checklist across eight areas:

  • Security & licensing (20%) — a valid gaming licence, verifiable operator, SSL encryption, cold-storage practices and independent game testing.
  • Provably fair (15%) — whether in-house games publish server seed, client seed and nonce so any bet can be independently verified.
  • Coin support (12%) — how many cryptocurrencies and networks are accepted, including cheap-and-fast options like USDT-TRC20 and Lightning.
  • Withdrawal speed (15%) — measured cashout times by coin, and whether payouts are instant or held for manual review.
  • Fees (8%) — deposit and withdrawal charges, and whether the casino absorbs network fees.
  • Bonuses (12%) — the real value of welcome offers, rakeback and cashback once wagering and max-bet rules are factored in.
  • Games (10%) — the size and quality of the slots, live-casino, table and crash/originals libraries and the studios behind them.
  • Privacy & KYC (8%) — how much you can do anonymously, and how clearly the site explains when ID verification is required.

Where an operator has a disputed licence, unresolved payout complaints or an ambiguous brand, we say so plainly and mark the score down — that is why Vave and Dreams Casino sit at the bottom of our table despite attractive headline bonuses (more on both below). Read the full process on our How We Rate page.

What is a crypto casino? Crypto vs fiat casinos

A crypto casino is an online casino that lets you deposit, bet and withdraw in cryptocurrency instead of (or as well as) traditional money. You fund your account by sending coins such as Bitcoin, Ethereum or a stablecoin from your wallet to the casino's deposit address, play the games, and withdraw any winnings back to your wallet on the blockchain.

The terms "Bitcoin casino" and "crypto casino" are often used interchangeably. Strictly, a Bitcoin casino accepts BTC; a crypto casino accepts a broader range of coins. Every site in our top 10 accepts multiple cryptocurrencies, so both labels apply.

Compared with a traditional fiat (NZD) casino, a crypto casino offers three practical advantages for Kiwi players:

  • Speed — blockchain withdrawals clear in minutes, not the one-to-five business days a bank transfer takes.
  • Privacy — many crypto casinos let you register with just an email and play without upfront identity checks.
  • Provably fair games — crypto-native originals let you cryptographically verify that each result was not manipulated (explained in full below).

The trade-offs are volatility (the NZD value of a coin can move while you play, unless you use a stablecoin) and a small learning curve — you need a wallet and some crypto to start. Prefer to stick with NZD? See our guide to the best online casinos in NZ.

Which coins can I use?

The crypto casinos on this page accept a wide range of coins. The most useful for Kiwi players in 2026 are:

CoinTickerBest forTypical confirmation
BitcoinBTCMost widely accepted; store of value10–30 min
EthereumETHWide acceptance; smart-contract ecosystem1–5 min (higher gas fees)
TetherUSDTStablecoin — hedges volatility; USDT-TRC20 fastest & cheapestUnder 10 min (TRON)
LitecoinLTCCheap, fast, low fees~2–5 min
DogecoinDOGEVery low fees; small-stake deposits~2–5 min
RippleXRPFast settlement, minimal feesSeconds–1 min
Bitcoin CashBCHLow fees; fast blocks~5–10 min
SolanaSOLVery fast, very cheap transfersSeconds
TronTRXUltra-low-fee network (carries USDT-TRC20)Seconds–1 min
Our pick for most players: USDT on the TRON network (USDT-TRC20) is the fastest and cheapest way to move money in and out of a crypto casino — transfers confirm in under 10 minutes for cents in fees. As a stablecoin pegged to roughly one US dollar, it also protects your balance from the price swings you get with Bitcoin or Ethereum. If you want to hold value steady while you play, use USDT or USDC; if you're happy to ride the market, BTC and ETH are the most widely accepted.

Always match the network. USDT exists on several networks (TRC20 on TRON, ERC20 on Ethereum, and others). Send on the same network the casino specifies — sending to the wrong network can lose the funds permanently.

Provably fair explained — verify every bet yourself

This is the section most NZ crypto casino guides skip. "Provably fair" is name-dropped everywhere as a benefit, but almost nobody explains how it actually works — so here is the full picture, and how to verify a bet yourself.

Provably fair is a cryptographic system that lets you confirm the casino did not rig a game result after you placed your bet. It works with three ingredients and a one-way hash function:

  • Server seed — a secret random string generated by the casino. Before you bet, the casino shows you a hash (a SHA-256 fingerprint) of this seed, committing to it without revealing it.
  • Client seed — a random string from your side (your browser generates one, and you can change it). Because you control it, the casino can't have pre-computed the outcome.
  • Nonce — a counter that increases by one with each bet, so every bet in a session produces a different, unique result from the same seed pair.
  • SHA-256 hash — the algorithm that combines server seed + client seed + nonce into the number that decides your result. It is deterministic (same inputs always give the same output) but effectively impossible to reverse.

How to verify a bet, step by step:

  1. Before playing, note the hashed server seed the casino shows you. This is its commitment — it can't change the underlying seed later without the hash no longer matching.
  2. Set or note your client seed. Change it if you want to be certain the casino didn't anticipate it.
  3. Play your bets. The nonce increments with each one.
  4. When you're done, "rotate" or reveal the seed — the casino now discloses the unhashed server seed.
  5. Hash that revealed server seed yourself (any SHA-256 tool) and check it matches the hash you were shown at step 1. If it matches, the casino used the seed it committed to.
  6. Feed the server seed + your client seed + the nonce for any specific bet into the game's public verifier (or an independent one). It reproduces the exact result of that bet — proving it was determined fairly and not altered.
Why it matters: with provably fair, you don't have to trust the casino's word or a testing lab's certificate — you can mathematically prove, bet by bet, that a result wasn't tampered with. It only applies to a casino's in-house "Originals" (Dice, Crash, Plinko, Limbo, Mines and similar). Third-party slots and live-dealer games instead rely on certified RNGs and independent auditors such as iTech Labs and GLI.

Among our top 10, Stake has the deepest provably-fair Originals library, wild.io ships 16 in-house provably-fair games, and Vave advertises 99% RTP provably-fair originals. We could not independently verify provably-fair tooling at MyStake or Dreams Casino, so treat those claims with caution.

No-KYC & anonymous crypto casinos

One of the biggest draws of crypto casinos is privacy. Because a blockchain deposit doesn't need a bank card or a name, many crypto casinos let you register with only an email address and start playing straight away — no passport, no proof of address, no waiting on verification. This is what "no-KYC" (no Know Your Customer) means.

In our top 10, Stake, Thrill, wild.io and Metaspins let you deposit and play with minimal or no upfront verification, and MyStake allows no-KYC play for small crypto amounts.

An honest caveat: "no-KYC" means no ID upfront — not "never verified." Under anti-money-laundering (AML) rules, virtually every reputable operator reserves the right to request identity documents later, most commonly when you withdraw a large amount, deposit and withdraw with little play in between, or trip an automated risk flag. When that happens, your withdrawal can be paused for a manual review window (often 24–72 hours) while documents are checked. If total anonymity is essential to you, keep individual cashouts modest and understand that a big win will almost always attract a verification request.

Crypto casino bonuses

Crypto casinos use the same bonus types as fiat casinos, plus a couple of crypto-native ones. A big headline number isn't the same as a good bonus — here's what actually matters:

  • Deposit-match welcome bonus — the casino matches a percentage of your first deposit (e.g. 100% up to 1 BTC, or 325% across several deposits at 7Bit). Watch for USD/EUR framing and multi-deposit packages.
  • Rakeback — a percentage of the house edge on your bets returned to you, win or lose. Stake's 5% and Thrill's up to-70% rakeback are 0x-wagering (no playthrough), which makes them some of the best value on this list.
  • Free spins — bonus spins on selected pokies, often bundled with a match offer.
  • Cashback — a share of net losses returned over a period; Thrill's cashback is also 0x.
  • Wagering requirements — how many times you must play through a bonus before withdrawing. Anything at or below 35x is fair; 50x+ is steep. A 0x rakeback or cashback is always better value than a big match with heavy wagering.

How to buy crypto in NZ with NZD — and cash out to your bank

You don't need to already own crypto to play. Here's the full round trip for a Kiwi player, from NZD to casino and back again.

Buying crypto and depositing

  1. Open an account at an NZ exchange. The main NZD on-ramps are Easy Crypto (NZ-based, NZD native), Independent Reserve and Dasset. Verify your identity once at this stage.
  2. Fund it in NZD. The standard rail is a bank transfer from your NZ bank account; some exchanges support faster options. Buy the coin you want to play with — USDT-TRC20 is our pick for low fees and stability.
  3. Send to your wallet or straight to the casino. Move the crypto to your personal wallet, or send it directly to the casino's deposit address. Copy the address carefully and confirm the network matches.
  4. Deposit at the casino. Paste the casino's deposit address (or scan its QR code) in your wallet/exchange, send the coins, and your balance credits after the network confirms — usually minutes.

Withdrawing and off-ramping back to NZD

  1. Withdraw from the casino to your wallet or exchange address. Choose a cheap, fast network (USDT-TRC20, LTC or DOGE) where possible.
  2. Sell for NZD on your NZ exchange (Easy Crypto, Independent Reserve or Dasset) at the market rate.
  3. Withdraw NZD to your bank by transfer. This usually lands within one business day.
On-ramp → wallet → casino, then casino → exchange → bank. That's the whole loop. Keep a small buffer for network fees at each hop, and remember that any gain on crypto you hold between buying and selling can be taxable (see below).

Withdrawal speeds by coin and network

Crypto withdrawals are the fastest in gambling, but the actual time depends on two things: how quickly the casino approves the cashout (instant vs manual review), and how quickly the blockchain confirms it. Here are the real benchmarks we see when testing, once a withdrawal is approved:

Coin / networkTypical time once approvedNotes
USDT-TRC20 (TRON)Under 10 minFastest and cheapest overall; our default pick
Litecoin (LTC)~2–5 minFast, low fees
Dogecoin (DOGE)~2–5 minVery cheap; good for small cashouts
Solana (SOL) / XRP / TRXSeconds–1 minNear-instant, minimal fees
Bitcoin (BTC)10–30 minSlower and pricier when the network is busy
Ethereum (ETH)1–5 minFast, but gas fees can spike

The bottleneck is rarely the blockchain — it's the casino's approval step. Sites like Stake and Thrill process most cashouts instantly with no manual hold; others hold larger amounts for a manual or KYC review that can add hours. If a withdrawal is taking longer than expected, it's almost always sitting in that review queue, not stuck on-chain. Chasing the quickest payouts? See our fastest-payout casinos guide.

Legality

Yes. It is legal for anyone aged 18 or over to play at an offshore crypto casino from New Zealand. The Gambling Act 2003 makes it illegal to operate an online casino from within New Zealand and restricts local advertising, but it does not make it an offence for players to gamble at overseas sites. From 1 May 2026 the Online Casino Gambling Act introduced a Department of Internal Affairs (DIA) licensing regime capped at 15 operators, with the first licensed sites expected in early 2027. Until then, the crypto casinos here operate offshore under licences from jurisdictions such as Curaçao and Anjouan, and it remains legal for Kiwis to use them.

Tax on winnings — the part most guides get wrong

This is a genuine gap in NZ crypto casino coverage, so here is the plain answer in two parts.

1. Your gambling winnings are not taxed. Inland Revenue treats recreational gambling winnings as a windfall, not income, so you keep 100% of what you win at the table. That applies whether you win in NZD or in crypto.

2. But later gains on the crypto you hold are taxable. This is the catch unique to crypto casinos. IRD treats cryptocurrency as property, not currency. So the moment your winnings are paid to you in, say, Bitcoin, that BTC is an asset with a NZD value on the day you receive it. If it rises in value before you sell or spend it, that gain is taxable income — at your marginal income-tax rate, which runs up to 39%. New Zealand has no separate capital gains tax, so this is handled as ordinary income under the property rules, and there's no CGT exemption to shelter it.

Practical example: you win 0.02 BTC worth NZ$2,000 on the day it hits your wallet — that NZ$2,000 windfall is tax-free. You hold it, and three months later it's worth NZ$2,600 when you sell. The NZ$600 gain is taxable income. Had you cashed out immediately (or won in a USDT stablecoin), there'd be nothing to tax. Keep records of the NZD value at the moment you receive and dispose of any crypto. This is general information, not tax advice — check with IRD or an accountant for your situation.

Crypto casino games

Crypto casinos carry the same games as top fiat casinos, plus a category of their own. Our top sites offer:

  • Pokies (online slots) — thousands of titles from Pragmatic Play, Hacksaw, Nolimit City and other leading studios, including Megaways and jackpot pokies.
  • Live dealer casino — real croupiers streamed in HD, plus game shows like Crazy Time and Monopoly Live.
  • Table games — blackjack, roulette, baccarat and poker in dozens of variants.
  • Crash & provably-fair originals — the crypto-native category: Crash, Plinko, Dice, Limbo and Mines. These in-house games are simple, fast and — crucially — provably fair, so you can verify each result. Stake and wild.io have the deepest Originals lineups.

What is RTP? Return to Player is the percentage of all wagers a game pays back over time. A game with 96% RTP returns NZ$96 for every NZ$100 staked on average — so higher-RTP games give better long-run value. Many provably-fair originals let you pick your own risk/RTP level.

Safety & licensing

Before you deposit, check three things: a valid licence in the footer, provably-fair tooling or independent game-testing seals (iTech Labs, GLI), and SSL encryption (the padlock in your browser). Most crypto casinos on this page are licensed in Curaçao, with a few under Anjouan — both common offshore jurisdictions that accept New Zealand players.

Two operators in our table carry a caution flag, and we won't overstate them:

  • Vave — its licence is disputed. Public records point to a Costa Rica business registration rather than a genuine gaming licence, effectively leaving it unregulated, and it has attracted withdrawal complaints. We rank it last and suggest caution.
  • Dreams Casino — the brand is ambiguous (the affiliate link resolves to a Bitdreams-branded offer, but "Dreams Casino" is also an unrelated RTG brand). We could not confirm provably-fair tooling. Verify exactly which site you land on before depositing.

Crypto adds one more safety rule that doesn't apply to card casinos: always confirm the deposit address and network before you send, keep the bulk of your funds in your own wallet rather than the casino, and enable two-factor authentication.

Play it safe

You must be 18 or over to gamble in New Zealand. Gambling should be entertainment, not a way to make money — and the speed of crypto deposits can make it easier to overspend, so set limits before you play. Never chase losses, and take breaks. If gambling stops being fun, free confidential help is available 24/7 from the Gambling Helpline NZ on 0800 654 655, the Problem Gambling Foundation (PGF, 0800 664 262) and Safer Gambling Aotearoa. Frequently asked questions

Are crypto casinos legal in New Zealand?

Yes. New Zealanders aged 18+ can legally play at offshore crypto casinos. Operating an online casino from within NZ is illegal, but using overseas sites is not an offence. From 1 May 2026 the Online Casino Gambling Act introduced DIA licensing, with the first licensed operators expected in early 2027; offshore crypto casinos may continue accepting Kiwi players during the transition.

Do I need a crypto wallet to play?

Yes. You need a wallet to buy, hold and send coins to the casino — either an exchange wallet (Easy Crypto, Independent Reserve) or a self-custody wallet like MetaMask or a hardware device. Withdrawals come back to that same wallet.

Can I gamble anonymously or without KYC?

Many crypto casinos let you register with just an email and play with no upfront ID, so you can start anonymously. But under AML rules most reserve the right to request documents later — usually on a large withdrawal or manual review. No-KYC means no ID upfront, not never.

What's the best cryptocurrency to use?

For speed and low fees, USDT on the TRON network (USDT-TRC20) — transfers confirm in under 10 minutes for cents, and as a stablecoin it protects you from price swings. BTC and ETH are the most widely accepted; LTC and DOGE are cheap, fast alternatives.

How fast are crypto withdrawals?

Once approved, USDT-TRC20 lands in under 10 minutes, LTC and DOGE within a few minutes, and BTC in roughly 10–30 minutes. Some casinos (Stake, Thrill) pay instantly with no manual review; others hold larger cashouts for a manual or KYC check.

Can I lose money to price changes while gambling?

Yes, if you play with a volatile coin like Bitcoin or Ethereum — its NZD value can move while your balance sits in the casino, separate from wins and losses. Use a stablecoin (USDT or USDC) to keep your balance pegged to roughly one US dollar.

Can I deposit NZD or play without crypto?

Some sites are crypto-only, but many accept NZD via card, bank transfer or e-wallet with automatic conversion. If you'd rather fund in NZD first, buy crypto through an NZ exchange like Easy Crypto, Independent Reserve or Dasset via bank transfer, then send it to the casino.

Can a crypto casino pay out to my bank account?

Not directly — winnings are paid in crypto to your wallet. To get NZD in your bank, off-ramp: send the crypto to an NZ exchange, sell it for NZD, and withdraw to your bank by transfer, usually within a business day.

What is the minimum deposit at a crypto casino in NZ?

Most set a low minimum, typically the equivalent of NZ$10–NZ$30 or around 0.0001 BTC; stablecoin minimums can be just a few dollars. Leave a little extra to cover network fees.
